The THIOPAQO&G process was originally marketed by Paques to be used solely for thetreatment of Biogas, which is produced by anaerobic digestion of waste water. Cooperationwith Shell International has led to further development of the process andresulted in the THIOPAQ O&G process. Now we can apply the technology forapplication at high and low pressure in the natural gas/petrochemicalenvironment at an economically scale for projects up to 150t/d sulphur.

Essentially complete H2S removal and recovery as elementalS.

Special costly equipment such as burners and reboilers arenot required. The regeneration and sulphur recovery section always operates atatmospheric pressure and ambient temperature.

Reliability of a natural process coupled with the efficiencyof dedicated engineering.

Simple process configuration and control with stableoperation.

Broad and flexible operating range with short systemstart-up times.

Expensive chemicals such as those required for liquid redoxprocesses are not required. Only sodium hydroxide and nutrients are required.

Limited utility requirements.

Ease of operation. Produced biosulphur is hydrophilic andbehaves like a relatively stable suspension without clogging or othernuisances.

Environmentally friendly process based on a naturallyoccurring bacteria.

Inherentlysafe operation:

no free H2Sdownstream absorber

ambient temperatures for the whole system (solutiontemperatures of 25 – 40 °C)

bioreactor and sulphur recovery at atmospheric pressure.

Produced biosulphur is the basis for a range of newagricultural products designed to act as (ingredients for) liquid fertilizersand liquid fungicides.
