Khyber Tobacco Company Ltd.  

Incorporated in 1954 the KHYBER TOBACCO COMPANY LIMITED, commonly known as KTC is a public limited company listed on the premier stock exchanges of Karachi and Lahore. At that time; the elite of Mardan region were included in its promoters and many of their descendants continue to be worthy shareholders in the company. Members of the stock exchanges and the general investors had also taken keen interest in the share floating of KTC. The Company is engaged in manufacturing of Cigarettes for both local and International Markets. At one stage the management control of the unit was assumed by the Pakistan Tobacco Company, the multi-national that enjoyed close to monopoly position in the country’s tobacco and cigarette industry. During this period the KTC remained as the contract manufacturer for Pakistan Tobacco Company Limited while some efforts were also made to manufacture and market KTC’s own brands on a limited scale.

During early eighties the PTC ceded control of the KTC and the majority shareholding and management control was assumed by the well known and respectable family of Mardan i.e. REHMAN FAMILY by then established players in the tobacco and cigarette field.

After the change of Management, the Company remained as a contract manufacturer of Cigarettes for Pakistan Tobacco Company for some years while also trying to develop independent sources of business.. For some time during Nineties, the Company was only involved in the Trading of Tobacco and having no cigarette manufacturing or marketing operations and entire  scope of its operations was restricted to Green Leaf Threshing of its own tobacco for trading purposes and for third parties on commercial basis.
